Predicting a Surge in Sales of Electronic Medical Records Systems

A recent study suggests more than half of the physicians polled expect to buy a EMR/EHR system in 2011 and 2012. This indicates a doubling of EMR purchases from 2010. The study also indicates that most existing practice management systems will be replaced using the PM imbedded functionality of a new EMR system.

The HITECH Act (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health) calls for most US physicians to move from paper based to Electronic Medical Records by 2014. Qualifying physicians that purchase a EMR EHR system that demonstrates “meaningful use” (MU) will qualify for upto $44,000 in incentive payments. The sooner a physician adopts a MU EMR systems, the more that physician will receive from HITECH EMR adoption incentive funding.
